I went to work that morning and left my daughter with my boyfriend at that time. When I returned home that afternoon I discovered my daughter was not her normal happy self something was seriously wrong. I kept asking CJ, the boyfriend, what happened, what happened and he couldn't give me any answers he just kept repeating he didn't know. Her eyes were rolling into the back of her head, she was crying and sleeping intermittently, her face pale white, and she couldn't support her own head, she felt like a ragdoll. We drove to the emergency room right away and from there we were rushed by ambulance to a bigger hospital 45 minutes away. She had to have emergency surgery to stop the bleeding on her brain and behind her eyes. I couldn't believe what I was hearing and what was happening to my daughter and what he had done to her. He had violently shaken and abused her. She came out of surgery and spent the next few days in ICU. She had seizures, I never left her side I was terrified of losing my baby girl. I prayed and prayed, God please heal my baby girl. She slowly and steadily started to get better. She was moved out of the ICU and spent a few more days in the hospital. She continued to make great progress, she had to re-learn how to sit up, roll over, crawl, stand and eat again. She has right sided weakness and blind spots in her left eye. She started walking at 2 years old. She didn't have anymore seizures after leaving the hospital and after 2 years of being seizure free on the medication she got to come off the meds! She is 5 years old today and continues to get therapy for her fine motor skills, speech and development. She is still struggling with controlling her bladder and bowel so she has to wear pull ups. Cj went to jail and was bonded out the next day. We waited over 2 years before we went to court and he took a plea deal that if he plead guilty to child endangerment causing bodily injury he would get a suspended prison sentence and put on probation for 3 years. That was exactly what happened. I'm so grateful that I have my daughter with me today because it could have ended differently, I know so many other victims are not so fortunate and lose their life to this abuse. I don't feel my daughter was given the Justice she deserved and I pray he never harms another child again. I pray for the other victims and their families. Thank you for all you are doing with your organization! Love, Nicole and Lilly
