Prevention Education Programs

Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS) /Abusive Head Trauma (AHT) is the leading cause of child abuse death in children under 5 in the USA (Klevens J, Findings from the National Violent Death Reporting System 2010).
There are many risk factors when it comes to SBS/AHT, some include young parents, premature babies, unstable family situations, low socioeconomic status, and child-care providers with limited experience with child care development.
Our prevention education programs include:
  • When Babies Cry… We C.O.P.E. (Middle & High Schools SBS Prevention Program)
  • When Babies Cry…We C.O.P.E. (Parent SBS Prevention Program)
  • Train the Trainer (Professional & Community SBS Prevention Education)
  • Hosting community information tables

Our Prevention Education Program targets schools, churches, hospitals, clinics, and community agencies.  The Shaken Baby Alliance (SBA) has collaborated with nationally recognized experts to further prevent abuse to children and developed our evidence-informed curricula “When Babies Cry… We C.O.P.E.”.

In 2007, SBA and the State Bar of Texas Committee on Child Abuse and Neglect combined forces to produce a DVD entitled “When Babies Cry.”  Available in both in English and Spanish, SBA provides this DVD to community members, including teachers, child care providers, youth organizations, community members, and professionals who request a copy. Numerous hospitals have requested the DVD and show it internally to provide education related to coping with crying and prevention of child abuse.

To order a copy of When Babies Cry DVD, please contact us at or call 817-882-8686.  Proceeds from the sale of this DVD go to support all program areas for the SBA.
