Det. Shane Kizer
Denton Police Department
Det. Shane Kizer has been with the Denton Police Department for 29 years where he has served in various positions. He initially served as a Patrol Officer for 5 years and then moved on to provide Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) and Gang Resistance Education to students from 6 years of age through 14 years of age. Det. Kizer also served on the Police Mountain Bike Unit, as a School Resource Officer, and on the Tactical Team. Det. Kizer has served in the Criminal Investigations Division where he investigated crimes against persons including elderly adults, adults with disabilities, and child abuse cases. He was honored as the Police Officer of the Year for Denton County in 2005. He has developed investigative curriculum on crimes against children and the elderly and provided training to law enforcement, medical, legal, and social work professionals at local, state, and national venues. Det. Kizer is active in his community and church and speaks to various community groups about violence prevention issues. As part of his current duties, Det. Kizer produces a Faith Based Conference to educate church leadership on issues related to safety in faith-based organizations including child sexual abuse and child physical abuse.
